Radiant plaster ceiling with the ready-to-install Fricokit
Before discussing the radiant ceiling, we must first dispel a common misconception. Indeed, many people believe that underfloor heating is more effective than ceiling heating because heat rises. However, it is not heat that rises, but hot air. In radiant heating systems, whether the source is at the ceiling or floor makes no difference.
The Fricokit is a complete heating system through the ceiling via plasterboard. Nevertheless, if insulation is inadequate, an additional heater should be added and the Fricokit considered as comfort heating.
It is essential to use plasterboards specifically adapted to this PRP heating technique.
While heating specialists may not always agree on which is better between PRP (ceiling) or PRE (floor), they all agree that it is the most efficient system for the simple reason that the only element 'insulating' the heat source from the room is just a thin 13mm layer of plaster.
Moreover, nothing is placed on a ceiling whereas a floor is cluttered with furniture and carpets that obstruct heat diffusion. Consequently, the efficiency of radiant heat in a PRP is optimal, reaching 80%. Furthermore, the response time is shorter compared to PRE because there is no need to overcome the inertia of the floating screed. As a result, its use requires low temperatures that do not exceed 32°C at full power.
How to install a Fricokit?
The Fricokit should be installed by a professional and each kit is suitable for one room since it has a single thermostat.
A Fricokit contains everything needed to integrate your radiant heating into plasterboard ceilings.
Each Fricokit thus contains a thermostat for regulation, a garland, radiant heating panels, and neutral panels that ensure the continuity of the thermal conduction layer.
Installation consists of connecting junction boxes and properly placing the components. DIY enthusiasts should not have any problems.
The radiant panels are connected to each other via the garland which ends in a junction box leading to the thermostat.
The 230V Single-phase power supply comes into the thermostat (11 Ampere relay). Finally, simply electrically connect the thermostat and the garland through the junction box.
How to size your installation?
In an installation location with very good insulation, choose 75 W/m² for comfort heating: in this case the default Fricokit is ideal with very few drops in neutral panels in the layout.
In an installation location with very good insulation, choose 85 W/m² for a complete heating system.
In an installation location with less good insulation, you can go up to a maximum of 100 W/m² for a complete heating system or for comfort heating if the insulation is really not good.
A Fricokit box has by default 73.3 W/m². It is designed for relatively good insulation conditions (walls, slab, etc.) and after deducting drops following the layout, you should have a minimum of 75 W/m².
The Fricokits; individually; have power ranging from 132 W to 2244 W and cover an area of 1.80 m² to 30.60 m². They are composed of radiant panels of 44 W (60 cm) and 88 W (120 cm).
Example of sizing:
Your room is for example 20 m²:
Your insulation is very good: you opt for 75 W/m² for supplementary heating thus you will need (20 x 75 = 1500 W): the Fricokit model at 1584 W with reference FKIT1584Your insulation is good: you opt for 85 W/m² for supplementary heating thus you will need (20 x 85 = 1700 W): the Fricokit model at 1716 W with reference FKIT1716Your insulation is quite good: you opt for 100 W/m² for supplementary heating thus you will need (20 x 100 = 2000 W): the Fricokit model at 1980 W with reference FKIT1980Your insulation is not good: do not choose a Fricokit! Opt for another heating system!
Your insulation is very good: you opt for 85 W/m² for a complete heating system thus you will need (20 x 85 = 1700 W): the Fricokit model at 1716 W with reference FKIT1716Your insulation is good: you opt for 100 W/m² for a complete heating system thus you will need (20 x 100 = 2000 W): the Fricokit model at 1980 W with reference FKIT1980Your insulation is not good enough: do not choose a Fricokit! Opt for another heating system!
Ready-to-install FricoKit radiant plaster ceiling kits from Frico brand
Comfort
Through the principle of radiation, air masses are not heated, only surfaces, objects and people are. This results in gentle heat and a stable temperature.
Space
Putting heating in the ceiling also frees up the walls. Thus, the entire room surface can be used down to the smallest corner.
Aesthetics
The Radiant Plaster Ceiling is a completely invisible heating system, as it has the same appearance as a standard plaster ceiling.
Acoustic
The system is perfectly silent. Moreover, our radiant plaster ceilings correct acoustics between levels.
Hygiene
The PRP operates without air circulation. The environment becomes healthier without dust movement, dust mites, or odors.
Safety
The PRP is a safe system. Due to its location and low temperature, any risk of burns is eliminated. Its position also protects it against any vandalism.
Simplicity
The system is easy to install, regulate and maintenance-free.
Negligible inertia
The PRP is perfectly adapted to the new thermal regulations.
Reliability
Our products fully comply with current standards and regulations. The heating element of the panels is marked 'NF Electricity'. Our products are guaranteed for 10 years including ceiling according to special conditions.
Energy performance
Optimal energy control. No air stratification, low inertia. Constant and homogeneous heat. Thanks to technical management, operating costs will remain without surprises.
Fricokit® - Ready-to-install Radiant Plaster Ceiling
The Fricokit® is a complete ready-to-install PRP pack, designed to simplify pricing, storage and installation.
There are 16 packs available with power ranging from 132 W to 2244 W.
Each Fricokit® is composed of:
heating panelsneutral panelsa specialized power supply linea specific TEVMIN11 Frico thermostat
Heating panels
The heating panels are prefabricated units consisting of a high-density rock wool insulator, lined on the underside with a heating element equipped with its 2 m cold connection. Their power is 44 W or 88 W.
Neutral panels
The Sertikit neutral panels SKP36N are of identical construction to the heating panels, but they do not contain a heating element. They are necessary to ensure the continuity of thermal insulation.
Regulation
It is necessary to provide suitable regulation commanding the Fricokit® heating panels according to the interior temperature. The TEVMIN11 thermostat included in the pack is a 6-order electronic thermostat with a first commissioning program. This program allows a gradual temperature rise over a 10-day period (provided in the PRP CPT). It thus avoids the risks of drying out and cracking of plasterboards after jointing.
Electrical connection
Each heating panel is equipped with a 2 m power cord with a male plug. The connection of the panels can only be made with specialized GPRP lines (PV No. 60021772-514830 A). These lines consist of a connection cable on which connectors are fixed every 1200mm.
Implementation
Implementation is carried out in accordance with current regulations, particularly NF C15100, CPT-PRP, technical opinion and installation data sheet. It must be executed by qualified companies with the possibility for the heating electrician to install the whole: framework, heating panels, neutral panels and specific PRP plasterboards, if they have a ceiling installation department with QUALIBAT 7151, 7152, 7153 qualification. Otherwise, they must execute it in coordination with a ceiling installer possessing these qualifications. A thermal study and a layout plan are mandatory to obtain maximum comfort. No drilling should be made in the heating elements. Differential protection 30 mA per 7.5 kW maximum under 230V and 13 kW under 400V (three-phase plus neutral).
